Outdoor enchantment surprises The Hague children at seven locations in the city

October 9, 2025

There is plenty to experience during De Betovering, not only in theaters and museums but also outdoors. For five days, the youth theater festival tours the city with a free 'pop-up' program: from Loosduinen to Mariahoeve. In addition, the enchanting street theater returns to the city center and the Scheveningen boulevard.

For the fourth year in a row, De Betovering is collaborating with The Hague housing corporations to literally bring art and culture into children's backyards. This year, Hof Wonen is also joining the initiative, just like Staedion and Haag Wonen did previously, meaning the Mariahoeve district will be visited for the first time. Furthermore, Betovering-buiten can be found this year in Loosduinen, Escamp (two locations), and the Schilderswijk.

Outdoor program

An enormous quantity of balls flies around in all neighborhoods during the performance Wonderland. A strange sound factory

by the duo Freek+Eric (known from Percossa) or a self-built fantasy animal in your own backyard: these are experiences you won't soon forget. At The Hague artist Mourad Aouragh's, everyone is welcome to pimp their (children's) bike or scooter into a unique specimen. Every day, the local Cultural Anchors also add an artistic workshop, and the housing corporations treat everyone to something tasty.

This year, you will once again be surprised on the streets by Enchanting Street Theatre, made possible in part by BinnenstadManagement Den Haag & City Center and Stichting Buitengewoon Scheveningen. In the city centre around Grote Marktstraat, on Saturday 18, Sunday 19, and Wednesday 22 October, you might suddenly find yourself face-to-face with a giant hippopotamus or sniffing giraffes. So keep an eye out between 12:00 and 16:00, because who knows, you might run into them! On the Scheveningen Boulevard, children can step into a real car wash with a magical bubble-blowing treatment or take a ride on a wondrous flying machine made of a giant insect. Location: Boulevard near the Kurhaus (seaside) on Thursday 23 and Friday 24 October between 12:00 and 16:00.
