  • When is De Betovering?
From October 17 to 25, 2026, The Hague will once again transform into one big stage during the most fun autumn break in the Netherlands. The full program online from July 1, 2026, and ticket sales will start. Don't want to miss anything? Subscribe to our newsletter and be the first to stay informed about all performances and activities.

  • Where is De Betovering?
You can experience the festival at over 60 locations in The Hague and just outside. So, a great many places are participating. View the locations here. Plan your own route via Google Maps to see the best way to get to a location. You can find our festival center at Theater aan het Spui from Saturday to Saturday.

  • From what age is De Betovering suitable?
Our program already has activities for the very little ones from 0 years old! Children up to and including 12 years old usually enjoy visiting the festival. Please check the age indications carefully, especially if you are coming with multiple children of different ages. The activities in the Festival Centre and at Betovering-buiten are suitable from 2 years old.

  • Can my daughter/son go to the festival independently, or can I drop him/her off and pick him/her up again?
No, it is actually great fun to do the Betovering activities together and make fun memories during the holidays. All children under 12 must come to the festival with an adult parent/guardian.

  • Do you, as a parent/guardian, also need to buy a ticket?
Yes, for theatre performances and workshops during De Betovering, you need a ticket for everyone attending.

  • Can you attend multiple workshops/performances in one day?
Certainly, but do check the start time, the duration of the performances and workshops, and travel time carefully. It is also good to take your child's attention span into account on such a day.

  • How does creating a wishlist work?
Create your personal wishlist on the website by clicking on the hearts within the program. Then click on 'My wishlist'. Sort by location to make booking easier and/or sort by date to print your own daily program.

  • Can I still enter if I am late?
No, a performance starts strictly on time. Therefore, you cannot enter late. Doing so disrupts the theater experience for other visitors and the performers. Unfortunately, your ticket will then no longer be valid or exchangeable.

  • Who determines the appropriate age for a performance or workshop?
The organization of De Betovering does this in consultation with the creators or designers of the performance or workshop. Thanks to our years of experience, we can make an accurate assessment. For example, if it says 7+, then this activity is truly designed for children aged 7 and up (or comparable cognitive development) and is usually less suitable for younger children. It is important to keep this in mind for your child, the other visitors, and the performers.

  • What does Language No Problem mean in the program overview?
Performances and workshops in this selection are visually engaging, such as music and circus. These performances have minimal dialogue and are suitable for anyone who understands little to no Dutch, is deaf or hard of hearing, and/or children with, for example, a Language Development Disorder (TOS).

  • What is De Betovering's policy regarding photography and media?
De Betovering takes media photos for promotional purposes. Therefore, you may be photographed upon entering our Festival Centre or outside Betovering. If you do not wish to be photographed as a visitor, please speak to the photographer or videographer. You can recognize them by their Betovering t-shirt or press pass.

To ensure the safety of children, it is not permitted to take photos with a professional camera at our festival. We appreciate photos for personal use taken with a smartphone, which you can share using #debetovering.

  • Can I prepare my children for a visit to the theater?
Do your children find it scary to go to the theater for the first time? How should you actually behave there? Belle and Juul from Het Laagland are happy to explain it to you!

  • Will Betovering-buitengo ahead in the rain?
In recent years, the sun has shone at Betovering-buiten. We hope that will happen again this year. ☺ Should the weather be very bad, we will adjust the program. We will keep you informed via our social media.

  • I forgot an item during my visit. What now?
That's inconvenient! Please contact the location where you last saw the item.

  • Which locations are easily accessible for people with disabilities?
The Hague has many accessible locations. The theaters, libraries, and cinemas have adapted facilities. The 'Accessibility at locations' page provides a description of the facilities at each location, ranging from lifts and disabled toilets to spaces for your assistance dog. If you have any doubts, please contact the location.

  • Which performances are suitable for an intellectual, visual, or hearing impairment?
Every year, we offer performances with audio description, a sign language interpreter, or special workshops for children with an intellectual disability (ID). You can find filters in the program overview to make a selection. Also, check the Program for Every Child

  • Could you please take into account that my son/daughter cannot tolerate many stimuli?
Yes, we have indicated in our program which performances are sensory-stimulating. This includes loud noises, bright lights, strobe effects, and/or simply seeing a lot at once on stage. This can be overwhelming for some children (and adults). Please know that you are always welcome, whether or not you are wearing (noise-canceling) headphones, and you are also always allowed to leave the auditorium if it becomes too much during a performance. We try to have a quiet room at as many locations as possible where you can retreat for a moment.

  • What facilities are available for babies in the Festival Centre?
The activities in the Festival Centre are suitable for children aged 2 and up. Unfortunately, the Festival Centre in Theater aan het Spui does not have a changing room or a breastfeeding room.

  • May I bring my own food and drinks?
During performances, the catering facilities in the theaters and the Filmhuis are open; you can get drinks and something to eat there. At other locations, such as the library or museums, coffee, tea, or lemonade is sometimes available. You may bring your own bottle of water, but you are not supposed to bring your own food. We ask that you do not bring food into the theater halls. This is distracting for yourself, other visitors, and the performers.

  • Can I become a volunteer at De Betovering?
We can often use helping hands! Check this page if we currently have volunteer vacancies.

  • I have a complaint about De Betovering; who should I address it to?
That is unfortunate, because we really want the festival to be a pleasant experience for everyone. Please send it to info@debetovering.nl for the attention of Miriam Duiker.

  • How can I reserve a spot for De Betovering with the Ooievaarspas?
A 50% discount applies to all performances. This discount is applied by the venue organizing the activity. Therefore, the reservation process may vary by location.

  • When will the program booklet be released again?
We have not published a program booklet for three years due to sustainability reasons. However, there is an extensive flyer. You can find the most up-to-date program on the website. The program is complete in September, but you can already find activities on the site starting in July.
