Are you unable to hear or see, or unable to hear or see very well? Then it might be helpful for you to attend a performance with a sign language interpreter or audio description. To find out which performances these are, click on the 'Interpreter' filter under Program 2026. Audio description
Prior to the performance with audio description (blind interpreter), there is a so-called Meet&Feel with the creators of the show. You can, for example, hear the voices of the actors in advance, or feel the costumes and the set. During the performance, you receive a live description of what is happening on stage via headphones.
Tickets for audio description (blind interpreter) are available for purchase at participating theaters. Please ensure you select 'audio description' when placing your order. When you arrive at the theater, it is advisable to mention that you have booked a ticket with an interpreter.
Sign language interpreter
A sign language interpreter makes stories audible and visible for everyone. The interpreter translates live what is being said on stage so that everyone can follow along, including visitors with a hearing impairment. Please note that if you wish to use an interpreter, you must indicate this when purchasing your tickets. When you arrive at the theater, it is advisable to mention that you have booked a ticket with an interpreter.
Suitable for visual and auditory impairments.
In addition, as a festival, we have selected performances and workshops that involve a lot of hearing or seeing. You can find these under the filter buttons 'Suitable for visual impairments' and 'Suitable for auditory impairments'. We made this selection based on the content of the performance or workshop and in consultation with the company or workshop instructor. We ask parents and guardians to assess for themselves whether a performance is suitable for their child, as long as the child is not younger than the stated minimum age.
Do you have questions about interpreting at a performance, or would you like to know if an interpreter is present at a specific activity? Please feel free to contact our Inclusion Project Manager, Sandra Scholtes, at sandra@debetovering.nl.
We are happy to work with you to find ways to make Festival de Betovering more accessible for you.
