Opening De Betovering with Rabarber & Cat Smits Company

How cool would it be to have Festival De Betovering opened by kids? Exactly! That’s what we’re doing this year!

Led by a professional artistic team from Theaterschool Rabarber and Cat Smits Company, a group of young makers and performers is creating the unique theatre production Bigger than Life, which will kick off the festival at the end of October 2025.

So what’s the show about?
The magic is: it’s created from the group’s own ideas! The starting point is the theme: Fear & Resilience. “What does your fear look like?” and “Where do you feel fear in your body?” From these questions, 14 young performers aged 8 to 14 explore what fear means to them and how it can come alive through boundless imagination.

Fantasy elements take shape in large puppets and objects, operated by several performers at once. How much control do you really have over your fears? And what happens when you can literally play with them and take charge?

Bigger than Life will be a visual, poetic and hopeful performance about unstoppable resilience and creativity. There’s already been a promising start at the theatre studio. Kids from all over the city are bringing their fears to life in the form of life-sized puppets and objects.

We’re super curious to see what unfolds during the artistic process – and we honestly can’t wait for the electrifying opening!
