First inclusive children's art day during De Betovering

September 30, 2025

On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Het Koorenhuis will be entirely dedicated to 'Een Bruisend Feest', the first inclusive children's art day within Festival De Betovering. Together with KOO/De Bruiserij, the youth festival is organizing a special day full of workshops and activities, made accessible to everyone who feels between 6 and 12 years old. Whether you have a disability or not.

Dance, poetry, theatre, and visual arts come to life in a full-day program, naturally curated according to the stimulating Betovering formula. Children can let their imaginations run wild during the DIY shadow theatre. In the playful dance encounter by Holland Dance Festival and Balletstudio Yolanda, truly everyone can move together. Discover how to bring poems to life with sign language and immerse yourself in the art installation Blub. As the icing on the cake, there is a theatre performance by BonteHond. Machtig (6+) is full of gigantic stories about powerful people, worthless underlings, and silent, fantastic heroes. Additionally, KOO and De Betovering offer craft areas, a sensory-friendly room, and lunch at the festival venue, Het Koorenhuis. A complete day so that children with and without disabilities can experience the festival together with their brothers, sisters, and friends, all in one place. Tickets and schedule: koo.nl/debetovering/

Annelieke Plugge is Inclusion Coordinator: “This program originated in collaboration with KOO/De Bruiserij. For many years, they offered special workshops during the festival week of De Betovering. Based on the idea of inclusive togetherness, we are now bringing all children together in one central location at the festival, and all children are welcome, with or without disabilities. Whether you prefer moving to sitting still, are unable to move, have difficulty hearing and seeing, or struggle with sensory processing: everyone is welcome! We have been greatly supported in this by Het Koorenhuis (AnnA Spaces), who facilitate this.”

De Betovering is a frontrunner in the field of inclusion in the performing arts and offers ample opportunities for truly all children in its city-wide festival program. Using the buttons on the website, the right offerings can be filtered to meet the needs of every child. For instance, at Het Nationale Theater, Theater Ludens, and Theater Dakota, the festival offers performances with a sign language interpreter (for the deaf or hard of hearing) and performances with audio description (for the blind or visually impaired) in collaboration with HNTonbeperkt, Theater met Tolk, TYD, and Komt het Zien! A large number of performances contain no language or speech. Additionally, it is always clearly stated whether a performance is sensory-stimulating, so that parents can decide for themselves if this suits their child. Various locations also offer sensory-friendly spaces to relax for a moment. Visit debetovering.nl/toegankelijkheid/ for all options.
