First Inclusive Children’s Art Day during De Betovering
On Wednesday, October 22, 2025, Het Koorenhuis will be completely dedicated to A Sparkling Celebration — the very first inclusive Children’s Art Day within Festival De Betovering. Together with KOO/De Bruiserij, the youth festival is organizing a special day full of workshops and activities, accessible to everyone who feels between 6 and 12 years old — whether you have a disability or not.
Dance, poetry, theatre, and visual arts come to life in a full-day program, created in the festival’s signature inspiring style. Kids can let their imagination run wild in the DIY shadow theatre. In the playful dance encounter by Holland Dance Festival and Balletstudio Yolanda, everyone can move together. Discover how to bring poetry to life through sign language, and dive into the interactive art installation Blub. To top it all off, there’s a theatre performance by BonteHond: Machtig (6+) — packed with gigantic tales about powerful people, worthless underdogs, and quiet, fantastic heroes.
At Het Koorenhuis, KOO and De Betovering will also provide creative stations, a low-stimulus space, and lunch — a complete day where children with and without disabilities can experience the festival together with their siblings and friends, all in one place.

Annelieke Plugge, Inclusion Coordinator, explains:
“This program was created in collaboration with KOO/De Bruiserij. For many years, they’ve offered special workshops during De Betovering’s festival week. From the idea of coming together inclusively, we’re now bringing all children to one central festival location — everyone is welcome, with or without a disability. Whether you prefer moving to sitting still, can’t move easily, have limited hearing or vision, or find sensory input challenging — everyone is welcome! We’ve also received great support from Het Koorenhuis (AnnA Spaces), who are helping make this possible.”
De Betovering is a frontrunner in inclusive performing arts and offers plenty of opportunities throughout the citywide festival program for all children. Through filters on the website, families can easily find the right activities to fit each child’s needs.
The festival, in collaboration with Het Nationale Theater, Theater Ludens, and Theater Dakota, offers performances with sign language interpreters (for deaf or hard-of-hearing visitors) and audio description (for blind or visually impaired audiences) through initiatives like HNTonbeperkt, Theater met Tolk, TYD, and Komt het Zien!. Many shows are language-free, and each event clearly indicates if it contains strong sensory stimuli so parents can choose what best suits their child. Several venues also offer quiet, low-stimulus spaces for relaxation.
