A hands-on activity from Museum Beelden aan Zee

A creature of your own invention is hidden on this paper. Can you conjure it up with your imagination?
Can you finish the fantasy animal using found materials?

Download and print this illustration (portrait or landscape format).

Workshop: Create an artwork with red cabbage Graphic Workshop

Needed: Found objects, glue or tape, thread, scissors.

  • Go look for various materials in and around your house: pieces of paper, matchboxes, wire, skewers, bottle caps, buttons, corks, clothespins, rubber bands, stones, twigs, leaves, feathers, etc. Collect as many items as possible.
  • Think about what kind of body you want to make for the fantasy animal, for example, a beast that can fly, or has many legs, or an animal with soft fur. Let yourself be inspired by your found objects.
  • Create your own animal: stack, tie, or glue your materials together. Cut or tear out shapes. Use your imagination!
  • Come up with a fun name for your imaginary animal.
