A colorful celebration of death and life
Skeletje is a poetic, funny, and comforting performance about saying goodbye. Theatergroep Grote Mensen and Maas theater en dans take you on a journey through memories, mourning rituals, and the mystery of death. Because saying goodbye can be beautiful too. And sometimes even festive.
Two Grown-Ups explore what it means to be dead. Taking turns, they practice saying goodbye to and remembering the other. This leads to confusion and unexpectedly funny moments. Together, they search for ways to do this, for what remains of a person, and how do you give meaning to that? Slowly, a ritual full of lights and stories emerges. And room for joy.
Through slapstick, magic, dance, and visual play, a memorial site grows filled with flowers, candles, skeletons, and stories. Skeletje builds its own farewell ceremony. Not heavy or solemn, but playful, moving, and full of life. A performance for anyone who has ever been touched by loss and wants to discover how to turn that into a celebration too, using garlands, dance, and memories.
Inspired by traditions such as Día de los Muertos, in which farewells and memories are celebrated with color, flowers, and music, Theatergroep Grote Mensen and Maas theater en dans build a lively ritual on stage. Grief is allowed, but so is the celebration. A vibrant ode to life!
A performance where loss and memories come to life. For everyone: big, small, fleshy or bony, from age 5.
