A well-known fairy tale takes a different turn. You know Hansel and Gretel from the forest. In this family opera, they find themselves in the midst of a world that suddenly tilts. They are on the run, seeking a safe place, food, and stability.

Hans and Gretel find themselves in a glittering candy world where everything seems tempting. But beneath that sweet layer lies something else. You sense that something isn't right. Danger lurks. Will Hans & Gretel manage to defeat the witch?   

With Hans & Gretel on the Run!, Opera Rebels presents, in collaboration with Opera2Day and Studio Youkali, an enchanting musical family opera for everyone aged 8 and up. Together with an ensemble of thirteen musicians on stage, narrator Nils Verkooijen, and four singers, an exciting adventure unfolds to the magical music of Humperdinck. With a new libretto by Krekel Prize winner Jibbe Willems, a spectacular opera experience for young and old is created, featuring a timeless story about courage and the indispensable power of being together.
